File format for posting downloads?

What file format are we going to be useing when we post files for download?

ZIP, RAR.....that stuff. ZIP is the only one that Windows can do, the others we might want to post a link to a location to get an extracter for that file format.

I would think we would post downloads as .zips since you dont need to download anything special to actually open the files..... like .rar, I've had my bad experiences with them....
